SEAFORTH SURFSKI RACE A number of kayak owners entered the traditional surfski only race on the 12th October. The more experienced surfskiers tackled the long course of 19kms while the kayakers and less experienced surfskiers did only one lap of 9kms. Margaret was second woman home beating three other women and Derek came first overall, in fact beating all the other surfskiers. Trevor Wright came second - on a surfski but his first ever race on a ski. Well done all.

Cape Point Paddle 10 single kayaks and 2 doubles - and their owners - met at Buffels this morning to paddle to Cape Point. However a strongish northerly wind and common sense determined that the group headed into the wind rather than south to Cape Point. A reasonably tough but enjoyable slog towards Smitswinkel Bay ended after about 5kms as the wind started to gust to more than 40kms an hour. We turned and had some great surfing back to Buffels. Everybody said they had a great time and for some it was the roughest conditions they had faced - so the bar was raised for them and they realised they could cope with hairy conditions better than they expected. That is one of the the ideas behind a group paddle, to go beyond your comfort zone and learn.

Kayak/Surfski Challenge A few paddlers from Paddlers today took part in the annual Langebaan race and did rather well. Derek won for fastest male kayaker, Margaret for fastest female kayaker, the Wepeners for fastest mixed double kayak and Jean-Claude came second behind Derek. Not a bad show hey? Of course we all finished a good few minutes behind most of the surfskis but well in front of a few, I am pleased to report.
