KAYAK RACE SERIES

The Paddlers Winter Series 2010

This is a monthly event where every paddler is encouraged to come along and set their best time over a set course. There are two distances so even the newest and unfittest can come and get involved. There is no restriction on the type of kayak as the aim is to improve your own times. There are some conflicting views about the seriousness of the event but for most people it gives you an extra push to do a paddle against the clock - the only person you have to beat is yourself.
Forth Kayak Race - Sunday 29th August 10am Long Beach, Simon's Town

Entrance Fee R30 per paddler (double R60). The fee is entirely donated to the NSRI.
Registration from 8.30 am
Race Briefing and course confirmation at 9.20 am
On the water start 9.30 am

Short Course 5.3k - Long Beach - Clan Stuart Wreck - Paddlers Buoy - return to Long Beach
Long Course 8.6k - Long Beach - Clan Stuart Wreck - Lighthouse - return to Long Beach

All paddlers must be wearing a PFD, have with them a cell phone in a waterproof pouch, and be using a paddle leash. All spectators should bring a camera!

Long Beach is the short beach behind the Simon's Town Railway Station (1st turning left after the station).
All paddlers are welcome and timings will indicate craft used.

If the weather looks doubtful a message will be left on the cell phone number 082 556 9945 from 7.30am onwards giving the go ahead or not, so call and listen to the message but don't leave one.
